Africa - Impressions, highlights and lowlights

Zambia
Highlight - Definitely white water rafting the Zambezi.
Lowlight - Getting eaten by mozzies the first few nights!
Impressions - Our Zambia experiences were very much limited to Livingstone. Vic falls was not so impressive in dry season. I think I'd go to Zambia again if given the chance, but I don't feel a huge need to go back.

Botswana
Highlight - The games we played at our bush camp in the Okavango Delta with our polers. The whole delta experience was great!
Coming back from the delta in the makoru..protecting my eyes from the reeds and having a nap!

Lowlight - grocery store experience in Maun. I would not recommend going to the store at the end of the month on the weekend! Queues were ridiculous, scanners didn't work, and we got cut about 7 times!
Impressions - I would definitely go back to Botswana. I'm not sure I can put my finger on why!

Namibia
Highlight - The Etosha national park floodlit watering hole. Really amazing wildlife and you didn't even have to leave the camp!

Lowlight - Not getting a picture of the three honey badgers I spotted!
Impressions - Again I would definitely return to Namibia, just for the wildlife alone!

South Africa
Highlight - So many highlights! But to just pick one, maybe the wineries! I'm excited to look for Moreson wines in the states come February.

Lowlight - Perhaps that I couldn't eat more of the delicious food at the braai our hosts cooked for us!?? Really hard to think of a lowlight in South Africa to be honest, so this is actually just another highlight!

Impressions - I LOVED South Africa. I am going to try to bring back "Pleasure" as a response to "thank you" in the states. It's so much nicer than you're welcome. Maybe it was just our amazing hosts, but I was seriously blown away by the hospitality we were shown. 100% will go back to SA. I must spend more time there and definitely have to get in a shark dive!

Kenya
Highlight - Staying in the village of our tour guide in Loita Hills.
Lowlight - Weather! Two frigid nights and two days when it pissed down. And getting sick along with 11 other people in our group.
Impressions - There was an unfortunate amount of rubbish around Kenya. Really sad to see such a beautiful place covered in garbage. Undecided as to whether I'd go back.

Tanzania
Highlight -  Serengeti game drives. Amazing wildlife viewing in the Serengeti and we came so close to seeing a live kill! We had great company in our jeep for the 3 days of game driving, so it made for quick passing of the time when the animals weren't cooperating.

Lowlight - Being bitten 200+ times by unidentified insects!? Probably ants.. Then having to miss the spice tour because my legs were on fire because of said bites.
Impressions - I'd return to Tanzania to see a live kill :)

Acacia Africa
This was the first tour group we went with from Victoria falls through to Swakopmund. They are great value for money. Huge lockers :) Our group was pretty small, 12 people and we all had a lot of fun and worked well together on the chores! And our tour guide Colin was an amazing cook! Things I am definitely trying to recreate.. acorn squash, corn, cheese thingies, potato bake, honey & orange chicken and bobotie (to name a few!). If I were to recommend a tour company in Africa it would have to be Acacia.
(Full disclosure, photo shamelessly stolen from Natalie "Doodles McGee")

Intrepid
The tour we were on for Intrepid was actually two tours combined, meaning we had two separate groups and guide/driver/cook. The trucks were quite dissimilar. The second two weeks those lockers were just crazy small! The cook the second week was great, but the first week left a bit to be desired. The washing routine not as efficient as Acacia which irked the auditor in me. Still great experiences and loved the groups (albeit bigger than acacia... 20 & 21), but I think I was expecting a bit more out of Intrepid as it was quite a bit more expensive. I'd only recommend if you could get a nice discount from their regular prices.
