Western Australia - Shark Bay to Exmouth

We visited Monkey Mia the morning after we left Shark Bay in Denham. Here we had the chance to interact with wild dolphins. There is a feeding program where 5 dolphins are fed a portion of their daily fish as to not interfere with their hunting abilities. During the second feed Mo was chosen and took me in with her to feed Surprise. When two more dolphins came up the researcher said, hang on we have  a shark. In fact, she said 'we have Shock'...another dolphin. That was almost bad!

We made a few stops that day at eagle bluff, shell beach, and the stalagmites.

We also saw several animals along the way - kangaroo, emu, goana.

This is the worst picture of the goana running away (think huge cousin of the Komodo dragon) after Mo and I stared at it out the window and she goes "are you going to take a photo or am I?" Then I finally got my camera out and this was the bet I could get!

We then made our way to ningaloo backpackers. The next day we all took a snorkelling trip with manta rays. One of the best parts was when we had to get in the water to see the mantas it had to be very quick. I was one of the first 4 on the ledge and they said 'go!'. We swam so hard and fast, but about 45 seconds later the lead swimmer stopped because the manta was so fast. We looked back and there was no one else following! Apparently just after we went the 'never mind' cue was given!

Unfortunately, I don't have the amazing pictures from under water since I didn't want to pay extra for them! We saw amazing reef and fish... A huge (by my standards) reef shark and the manta rays we were swimming with were 2- 3.5 metres! If I can grab some photos from someone else on the tour I might do an update because the photos are really cool.

After snorkelling we headed to Exmouth, stopping at the Tropic of Capricorn for photos. Kimbo took a few of us snorkelling at the drift in turquoise bay the next day.

She had a surprise for us. We had dinner on the beach at her secret spot - the shack. We watched a turtle think about coming up to the beach to nest and watched the sunset.

Here's Mo in action as her camera was on timer and started blowing away.
